The former Protestant St. Thomas Church with the community center is located at Blunckstraße 14-16 in the Berlin district of Wittenau in the Reinickendorf district . The building complex , designed by Ludolf von Walthausen, was inaugurated on March 30, 1969.

history

1968–1969 the St. Thomas Church was built with around 350 seats as the second place of worship for the parish of the Wittenau village church . The construction costs were around 2.25 million marks (adjusted for purchasing power in today's currency: around 4 million euros). It was later expanded to include the single-storey community center. Since the 1990s, the church has been used by the Full Gospel Congregation , which is a member of the Bund Freikirchlicher Pentecostal Churches .

Building description

The plan of the church is an irregular polygon . Your walls consist mainly of exposed concrete . Only to the west of the street does the concrete wall have vertical ribs, between which there are irregular openings that are glazed in color. At the level of the chancel, the wall is closed off with a large, braced window. The roof structure of the flat inclined pent roof of the church is composed of fan-shaped laminated beams , on pillars of reinforced concrete bear. The altar area is raised in the worship room. There is no classic gallery , but the raised area accessible via stairs serves the same function. To emphasize the longitudinal axis, there is a vertical slot in the altar wall in the north, which is glazed in color.

Bell tower

The base of the Campanile is made of concrete. Above is the bell chamber, which is clad with vertically arranged black metal pipes. In it hangs a ring made of four bronze bells , which was cast in 1969 by Petit & Gebr. Edelbrock .
