Tigran Borisovich Gorgiev

Tigran Borissowitsch Gorgijew ( Russian Тигран Борисович Горгиев ; born August 30, 1910 in Kislyar , † December 13, 1976 in Dnipropetrovsk ) was a Soviet chess composer .

Life

Gorgiyev learned the rules of chess as a child from an uncle, but found no suitable playing partner in his hometown and then dealt intensively with chess literature. In 1927 he composed his first study, which was published in the Izvestia newspaper . Nikolai Grigorjew and Wassili Platow were among his role models, while studies by Henri Rinck were criticized in several essays as being too mechanical.

From 1934 to 1939 Gorgiev graduated from the Medical Institute of the Dagestani ASSR in Makhachkala . In 1954 he moved to Dnepropetrovsk. In the early 1960s he worked for a few years as the deputy head of the Institute for Epidemiology in Odessa , doing research on the bactericidal effects of fish oil . In Ukraine he was active in chess circles and also promoted other composers.

He created a total of about 400 endgame studies and reached the finals of the Soviet Championship for Chess Composition five times. In the FIDE album he got 66.67 points.

He died at the age of 66 after a heart attack.
