college
After his first year at Villanova University , he signed up for the draft. He was selected in 1997 as the 7th player by the New Jersey Nets , but was immediately transferred to the Philadelphia 76ers for their draft pick Keith Van Horn .
National Basketball Association
In his first NBA season, Thomas was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team . In 1999 Thomas moved to the Milwaukee Bucks , where his teammate Ray Allen said of him that he could be one of the best players in the league if he wanted to. This statement also reflected the widespread opinion in NBA circles that Thomas was not making enough of his talent. After the 2001/02 NBA , Thomas received a six-year contract with the Bucks.
In 2004 Thomas was swapped for Keith van Horn again - this time to the New York Knicks , but in 2005 he moved on to the Chicago Bulls together with Michael Sweetney, among others in exchange with Eddy Curry . Due to his inadequate athletic attitude, Thomas soon fell out of favor with the Bulls and switched to the Phoenix Suns during the season , where he showed outstanding performances in the play-offs .
On July 13, 2006 Thomas signed a four-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers , where he could no longer connect to his level reached in Phoenix and where he was transferred to the New York Knicks on November 21, 2008 again.
On February 19, 2009, Thomas joined the Chicago Bulls with Jerome James and Anthony Roberson in exchange for Larry Hughes .
On July 14, 2009, Tim Thomas was bought out of his contract with the Chicago Bulls, which ran for another year and would have brought Thomas $ 6.5 million in salary.
On July 28, 2009, he signed a one-year contract with the Dallas Mavericks. On August 18, 2010, he signed with the Mavs for another year. However, he won't appear for the Mavs next season.
