Tymoshenko Medal
The Tymoshenko Medal ( English Timoshenko Medal ) has been awarded since 1957 by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) for outstanding contributions in the field of applied mechanics (technical mechanics).
It is considered one of the most prestigious international prizes in the field of technical mechanics and is awarded in honor of Stepan Prokofievich Tymoshenko . The prize consists of a bronze medal and prize money (2000 dollars, as of 2011). The first prize winner was Tymoshenko himself in 1957. Every year - at the annual ASME meeting - the winner of the respective year gives a lecture.
The Tymoshenko Medal Committee consists of the last five Tymoshenko Medalists, the five members of the ASME Executive Committee, and the last five predecessors of the ASME Executive Committee. After recommendations have been made, the committee will select a winner and approve it by ASME.
