Tinejdad - town view |
Tinejdad (also Tinjdad ; Arabic تنجداد, DMG Tinaǧdād ; Central Atlas Tamazight ⵜⵉⵏⵊⴷⴰⴷ ) is an oasis town with about 10,000 inhabitants in the province of Errachidia in the region Drâa Tafilalet in the southeast of Morocco .
Location and climate
Tinejdad is located directly on the N10 about 55 km east of Tinghir and about 90 km (driving distance) west of Erfoud at an altitude of about 1020 m . It is an elongated oasis settlement on both sides of the mostly dry Oued Todra and - apart from Goulmima - the easternmost station on the " road of the kasbahs ". The climate in Tinejdad is desert-like; the sparse rain (approx. 125 mm / year) falls almost exclusively in the winter half-year.
population

---|---|---|---|
Residents | 5,755 | 7,494 | 8,942 |
The continuing slight increase in population is mainly due to the immigration of Berber families from the mountain regions of the High and Middle Atlas.
economy
The economic situation is based on the oasis economy , which in turn depends on the spring meltwater of the High Atlas . Tourism hardly plays a role.
history
In the absence of written records, nothing is known about the history of the place. As in all the oasis valleys of southern Morocco, the people here are likely to have settled down for thousands of years, because everything that was necessary for permanent survival was found in the oases: date palms and other trees that provide shade ( pomegranate , fig tree, etc.) as well as fertile, easy ones irrigating soils for growing cereals (especially barley) and vegetables (especially beans). Large-scale livestock farming was not possible in the oases, otherwise the laboriously grown crops were endangered.
Attractions
- The previously existing clay buildings have largely disappeared from the cityscape and have been replaced by new buildings with walls made of hollow blocks , ceilings made of concrete, large windows and satellite dishes.
- The only attraction of Tinejdad is the Ksar El Khorbat , which was only built in the 19th century and is located about 5 km west of today's town, with its network of paths that run at right angles and are built over in several places. The entire architecture of the ksar is not based on the kasbahs of Tinghir u. a., but on the regularly laid out Ksour in the area of Rissani . The Ksar, built from rammed earth - in parts also from unfired adobe bricks - is only partially inhabited; other parts were converted into a museum and a hotel in the years after 2000 in international cooperation. The museum shows exhibits from everyday life of the Berbers in several rooms.
