Todd Duke
Christopher Todd Duke (born June 2, 1970 in New Orleans - † January 6, 2019 ) was an American jazz musician ( guitar ).
Live and act
Duke learned about music through his parents' record collection. He started playing guitar at the age of eight and was initially concerned with the rock and roll of the time. Steve Cropper was an early influence; As a teenager, Duke switched to the blues , at Slidell High School he discovered jazz and thus guitarists like George Benson and Kenny Burrell . Until graduation in 1989, he attended the New Orleans Center for the Creative Arts for two years , where he studied with Hank Mackie .
Duke was active in the music scene in his hometown from 1991; initially he accompanied musicians such as Yufus Hawkins , Jerry Jumonville and Bob French . He later belonged to the formation Hot Club Of New Orleans , with whom he released three albums between 2002 and 2008. He also worked for many years with John Boutté , heard on albums such as Good Neighbor (2008), Stew Called New Orleans (2009) and All About Everything (2012). In 2009 he formed the New Orleans Jazz All Stars with Dwayne Paulin and Alonzo Bowens . Recordings were also made with the New World Funk Ensemble, Leroy Jones , Debbie Davis , Germaine Bazzle , Charlie Dennard and with Will Porter / Dr. John ( Tick Tock Tick ). Michael Doucet included him on his album From Now On , which was nominated for a Grammy in 2008 as "best Zydeco or Cajun album". The discographer Tom Lord lists nine recording sessions with Duke between 2007 and 2018 in the field of jazz.
