Tomáš Kundrátek (born December 26, 1989 in Přerov , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Oceláři Třinec from the Czech Extraliga since July 2019 .

Career

Kundrátek began his career in his hometown at HC Přerov , for whom he played in the U18 extra league between 2003 and 2005. In the summer of 2005 he moved to Třinec and initially continued to play in the U18 extra league. At the end of the 2005/06 season he was also used in the U20 extra league and played the playoffs with the U20 juniors. In the following season he made his debut in the top division of the Czech Republic, the Extraliga . In addition to 26 appearances in the men's team, Kundrátek played the rest of the season with the U20 juniors.

In the 2007/08 season Kundrátek went both for HC Oceláři Třinec in the extra league and the U20 extra league on the ice, as well as for the second division HC Havířov and HK Prostějov . During the NHL Entry Draft 2008 , the Czech was selected by the New York Rangers from the National Hockey League in the third round in a total of 90th place. In August 2008 Kundrátek signed his first contract with the Rangers, but was used until 2010 with the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League . In September 2010, he took part in the Rangers training camp and was then used in the franchise's farm team , the Connecticut Whale from the American Hockey League .

On November 8, 2011, the New York Rangers transferred him to the Washington Capitals for François Bouchard . In July 2013, his contract in Washington was extended by two years, while Kundrátek was transferred again to the AHL farm team, the Hershey Bears , at the beginning of the 2013/14 season .

After Kundrátek had only played with the Bears in the 2013/14 and 2014/15 seasons, he left North America in June 2015 and joined the Latvian club Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League .

Kundrátek played for HC Slovan Bratislava between 2015 and 2017 , then for one year for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod . From May 2018 he was under contract with Kunlun Red Star , but returned to HC Oceláři Třinec in early December 2018. A few weeks later, in January 2019, he was signed by HC Davos from the National League . He played 19 games for HC Davos before returning to HC Oceláři Třinec in July 2019.

International

Tomáš Kundrátek has participated in two international championships in his career so far. For the U18 and U20 national teams , he took part in the U18 World Cup in 2007 and the U20 World Cup in 2008 . Due to a less than convincing participation in the 2008 World Cup, his ranking for the Entry Draft 2008 dropped, so that he was finally selected in the third round.

The defender made his debut for the senior national team in his home country at the 2016 World Cup and a little later was also represented at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey .
