Tomás Roberto Patricio Manning

Tomás Roberto Patricio Manning OFM (born August 29, 1922 in Baltimore ; † November 9, 2001 ) was Bishop of Coroico .

Life

Tomás Roberto Patricio Manning joined the Franciscan Order and was ordained a priest on June 5, 1948 .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on April 21, 1959 first prelate of the newly established territorial prelature Coroico and titular bishop of Arsamosata . The Archbishop of New York , Francis Joseph Cardinal Spellman , donated him episcopal ordination on July 4th of that year ; Co- consecrators were Abel Isidoro Antezana y Rojas CMF , Archbishop of La Paz , and Eustace John Smith, OFM, Vicar Apostolic of Beirut .

He participated in all four sessions of the Second Vatican Council as a council father. On November 30, 1977 he renounced his titular bishop's seat in the course of the new allocation directives of the Roman Curia .

Pope John Paul II elevated the prelature to the diocese of Coroico on July 28, 1983 and named Manning its first bishop. He resigned from his office on October 9, 1996.
