Tom Canning

Tom Canning (born January 24, 1948 in Rochester (New York) ) is an American fusion musician ( keyboard , organ , composition ).

Canning grew up in a family of musicians: his father Thomas Canning was a professor of music theory and composition at the Eastman School of Music ; his mother was a professional church vocal soloist. Tom Canning took classical piano lessons with Eastman for ten years and developed a wide musical interest. He studied as a music interpreter at the Berklee School of Music in Boston and North Texas State University .

Canning then settled in Los Angeles, where he initially worked with John Klemmer , Delbert McClinton , Freddie King and T Bone Burnett . In 1974 he became a member of Al Jarreau's band, where he was also musical director and co-producer for several years. He toured around the world with Jarreau and was involved in seven albums (Grammy Awards). He co-wrote songs like "Breakin 'Away", "Never Givin' Up" and "Roof Garden". From 1984 he produced with Ray Lynch , toured internationally with Wayne Shorter , and then worked with Elvis Costello , Jim Carroll , Glenn Frey and Joe Walsh , Bonnie Raitt and Stephen Bruton . From 1998 he was a member of Johnny Hallyday's band for five years to also become a member of John Mayall's Bluesbreakers , with whom he recorded ten albums. He also worked for Eddy Mitchell , Atushi , Betty Buckley and T Bone Burnett and went on tour with Rickie Lee Jones and Playing for Change . He also composed for film and television.
