Tommi Schmitt

Thomas "Tommi" Schmitt (born January 26, 1989 in Detmold ) is a German author , columnist and podcast presenter .

Life

Schmitt attended the Leopoldinum grammar school in Detmold , which he graduated from high school in 2008 . After his community service , he studied media communication and journalism in Cologne and, after completing his bachelor's degree, volunteered in the press department of the Borussia Mönchengladbach football club . He broke off his subsequent master's degree in Hanover in favor of his career as a comedy author. Tommi Schmitt lives in Cologne.

Professional background

Tommi Schmitt wrote jokes for TV total while he was still a student . He eventually moved from Hanover to Cologne to work as a freelancer for comedy formats on German television. He now works for Luke Mockridge's show Luke! the week and me and for Late Night Berlin with Klaas Heufer-Umlauf .

Schmitt became better known through the podcast Mixed Hack , which has been published weekly since 2017 and which he moderates together with the Berlin comedian Felix Lobrecht . Spotify has held exclusive rights to the podcast since September 2019 . Mixed Hack is one of the most popular audio formats in German-speaking countries and was the third most streamed podcast worldwide on Spotify in 2019. Some of the podcast's actions received a great response in social networks, such as the ironic hashtag #unsereweiber , which expresses solidarity with the German women's national football team and denounces sexism towards women's sport. The action was picked up by the ARD Sportschau and the hashtag was shared by the team's players.

In June 2019, the WDR channel 1LIVE Comedy launched the weekly YouTube format What do things do? , in which Tommi Schmitt and Felix Lobrecht answer absurd questions.

Schmitt wrote columns for Stern , Ruhr Nachrichten and Würzburg Experience , among others .
