Tommy Koverhult

Tommy Koverhult (born December 11, 1945 , † December 9, 2010 ) was a Swedish jazz musician ( saxophone , flute ).

Koverhult, who first learned alto saxophone and switched to tenor saxophone in 1961 , first became known in the Bernt Rosengren quartet , which also included bassist Torbjörn Hultcrantz and drummer Leif Wennerström . With this quartet and larger formations by Rosengren, he was involved in three albums awarded by Gyllene Skivan ( Stockholm Dues , 1965, Improvisationer , 1969, and Notes from the Underground , 1971). In the early 1970s he played with Maffy Falays Sevda and occasionally with Don Cherry ( Organic Music , Modern Art: Stockholm 1977 ). From the mid-1970s he led his own groups, initially with Jan Wallgren . His quintet was named Sweden's best newcomer in 1983 by readers of Orkester Journalen and Tonfallet .

He also worked with Monica Zetterlund , Gunnar Bergsten and Eje Thelin . Between 1967 and 2006 he was involved in 96 studio productions; he can also be heard on albums by Nannie Porres , Lalle Svensson , Lennart Åberg and Lasse Werner .
