Toni Wilhelm (born February 5, 1983 in Lörrach ) is a German windsurfer .

Life

Toni Wilhelm has a degree in sports science . The athlete from the Württemberg Yacht Club was initially active in the Mistral class . Here he took part in the European championships for the first time on Lake Neusiedl in 2002 and finished 31st. Towards the end of the year he reached 47th place at his first world championships in Pattaya . In the following year, the 33rd place at the European Championships in Mondello and 27th place at the World Championships in Cádiz . Wilhelm achieved a first place in the top ten in Çeşme where he was eighth in the world championships. At the European Championships shortly afterwards in Sopot , he finished 13th. The 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens were the first career highlight and conclusion of the career on the Mistral . There he reached the 30th place.

After the games, Wilhelm switched to the RS: X, which was to be Olympic from now on. The change took place without any significant problems. As early as 2004, he took part in the European Championships in Alaçati and finished 18th. The World Championships on Lake Garda followed in early autumn, where he reached the top ten with eighth place. The following two years were less successful. There he missed the bronze medal by just four points in fourth place against Przemysław Miarczyński . At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro , Wilhelm took sixth place.
