If one goes is a German television film by Stefan Bühling from 2019. It is the fourth episode of the ZDF television series Tonio & Julia with Maximilian Grill and Oona Devi Liebich in the leading roles.

action

Tonio and Julia continue to work together in the advice center of the Catholic parish of St. Sixtus. The Bittl couple went to family counseling because their lawyer had asked them to. The two want to divorce after 60 years, but Tonio wants to help them find ways to continue their marriage, which is a sacrament in the Catholic Church. Since Sebastian Bittl refuses this and wants to be divorced in any case, Tonio asks Julia, who has a little more room for maneuver than he as a Catholic pastor. At the first appointment, Julia notices that the Bittls don't care as much as the two think. She finds a lot in common and encourages them to talk more about their feelings. Most of all, they bond with their children, who are now all out of the house and Anna got depressed about it. Her husband, on the other hand, hadn't noticed anything and said that his wife would no longer be interested in him and had therefore enjoyed herself with women on the Internet on a virtual level. Anna has now found out and is so angry that Julia can hardly think of anything to mediate. But she succeeds in the end and both make up.

When Tonio is invited to dinner with Julia's parents, he learns that Monika and Xaver Schindel are also having problems with each other. Xaver doesn't feel very valued by his wife. In his opinion, her balance sheets are more important to her than he is. On the other hand, Xaver grieves his wife with his bad mood. Son Max suggests to his mother to simply go into town, buy something new and surprise Xaver with it. However, she herself is surprised when she sees her husband in a café with another woman. She is convinced that Xaver is cheating on her and asks Julia to confront her father. But Tonio takes care of that for her and now learns that Xaver thinks he is terminally ill and wants to deal with it on his own so as not to burden the family. So he met with his insurance agent to clarify the details of his life insurance. Tonio does not allow that and convinces Xaver to see a doctor. After that, Julia's parents speak out and the world is all right again for them.

However, the world collapsed at Julia's friend Melli's family when Melli collapsed while pregnant and was taken to the emergency room with suspected amniotic fluid embolism. While her baby survives well, Melli dies. Thorsten Kleinschmidt remains behind as a single father with four children. Julia wants to support him, but is so emotionally attacked that she actually needs help herself. Tonio does not find it easy to hold the funeral service either.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv commented: “The stories within the episodes of 'Tonio & Julia' don't always connect as coherently as in 'Wenn ein geht', the second of the four new films in the ZDF series. Because the plot is not overloaded, because the extensive, but only sporadically appearing, continuous staff gives the viewer the impression of being close to everyday life and because the stories flow into one another casually & relaxed, the effect on the home straight is all the more intense - and you don't get the impression that here only emotionalizing set pieces would be used. "

The critics of the television magazine TV Spielfilm gave it a medium rating (thumbs straight) and wrote: “The title gives it away: It's going to be tragic! The amiable performers once again give well-intentioned advice about love and family and an 80's hit by Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush points the way ahead: 'Don't Give Up'! "
