Pinch does not apply is a German television film by Kathrin Kulens Feistl from 2018. It is the first episode of the ZDF television series Tonio & Julia with Maximilian Grill and Oona Devi Liebich in the leading roles.

action

Family therapist Julia Schindler leaves her boyfriend in Berlin and wants to take a job at the Catholic Church in her home village in Bavaria. Julia's parents are happy that she is back home, only her brother Max is skeptical. But first she still has to complete the interview. She hopes that the local pastor Tonio Niederegger, whom she knows from her youth and with whom she was very close friends, will stand up for her. That hope is dashed when she notices that he is asking very critical questions. He doubts Julia's reliability because he knows her to be very volatile. In the past she had always avoided problems. Julia claims to have changed, but Tonio has his doubts. He has to work with her in the St. Sixtus community and that is why he wants to be able to rely on his employees. Despite his concerns, Julia managed to convince Vicar General Zumbrodt and she got the job. On her first day at work, Julia had to find out that all people with their worries would rather go to the pastor than to a “stranger”. Julia tries to find a young girl who went to the counseling center a week ago and then disappeared again. After Julia succeeds in finding Lisa, she can get her to talk to her about her problems. Lisa is friends with Justus Lechner, who runs a farm together with his father. She had always helped out there, but since Justus' mother died, his father has suffered from compulsive acts and has also become more and more violent. She would not have been able to take it any longer and therefore have given Justus an ultimatum. He should leave the court, otherwise he would lose her. Lisa now fears that she did something wrong.

Tonio is also worried about the Lechners. He can understand their problems very well, because his father has also lived alone since Tonio's mother died. He and Julia visit Hermann Lechner to talk to his son. The whole thing escalates and Hermann would have shot himself if Julia hadn't skilfully distracted him. So they finally find Justus, who had been locked up in the basement by his father so that he could not leave the yard.

Hermann Lechner is taken to a clinic and Tonio has to admit with no envy that Julia has done a good job. But she is not so satisfied herself, because the gap between father and son still exists and has not yet been resolved. She is all the more astonished when after some time Hermann Lechner appears at Julia's counseling center to apologize to her. With Julia's help, he manages to get rid of his guilty feelings about the death of his wife and to reconcile himself with Lisa. The reconciliation with his son follows after Hermann signals to him to hand over the farm and Justus realizes that his father has really changed.

These family problems have also shown Tonio that he has to deal better with his father, whom he visits far too seldom. He decides to bring him to the rectory.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said: “ARD & ZDF will help you: Mother Teresa lives on and on ... Once the male gods in white took over the television series, the 90-minute series formats have been in place for a few years in the easy subject in the care of Mother Teresa. ”“ Since the inclined audience apparently cannot get enough of advice, help, encouragement and consolation even in fictional form, the public service viewers tinker with other protagonists with helper syndrome and often little talent for your own happiness. ”“ One wonders why you need scriptwriters at all, when every viewer with a little television experience can tell the story all by himself. ”
