Two are not yet a couple is a German television film by Kathrin Kulens Feistl from 2018. It is the second episode of the ZDF television series Tonio & Julia with Maximilian Grill and Oona Devi Liebich in the leading roles.

action

The young woman Mosny appears at Pastor Tonio Niederegger's to cancel her daughter Frieda's baptism. Family therapist Julia Schindel immediately notices the woman's emotional plight and asks her to talk to her. Here she learns that the relationship between the young parents has been very tense since the child was born and that Philipp would not stick to agreements. She feels left alone with everything and overwhelmed, but also wants nothing more than a family with him. Julia tries to explain to Laura Mosny that not only young mothers but also fathers are often overwhelmed and need time to get used to new situations. Neither of them suspect that Philipp leads a double life and that is why he is so erratic in his decisions.

Julia has just moved into the holiday apartment in her parents' house and broke all bridges to her old life in Berlin and her boyfriend Paul when he suddenly stands at her door. He assures her that he has now finally separated from his wife. While Julia, happily surprised, turns back to Paul, Tonio sees the relationship between the two skeptically. By chance he now learns that Paul is still married and so he confronts Julia, after all, she is still in her probationary period and as an employee of the Catholic Church committed to the 10 commandments . Julia is upset at first, but has the feeling that Tonio takes it very personally, because he and Julia were a couple in our youth and his love may never have completely died. Julia not only has problems with Tonio, Paul also suddenly explains to her that he has to go back to his wife. For Julia that's too much and she ends her relationship again. However, there is no time for the pain of separation, because after a storm, Laura Mosny, who went on a boat trip with her little daughter the day before, is missing. To find out where exactly Laura was going, Tonio contacted Philipp Engelbrecht. When looking for his phone number, he found his company's website on the Internet and found out that he was already married. Meanwhile, Julia and the water rescue team are looking for Laura and her daughter. Fortunately, they can both bring them back on land relatively safe.

Just as Tonio is thinking about how he can gently teach Laura the truth about her Philipp, the pastor now contacts the pastor and asks him to talk to him. He tries to explain to Tonio what predicament he was in and how it came about. Tonio advises him to immediately "clean the table" and face the problems. He does and Laura ends her relationship with him. She has Frieda baptized and, thanks to Julia's initiative, Philipp even comes to the baptismal service accompanied by his two sons.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv criticizes the “stereotypical course of action [and] the awkwardness of the dramaturgy”. Only "the music provides [...] [for a surprise, because it] is danced to Van Morrison's pop jazz classic 'Moondance' at the hearty lake festival ..."

Ulrich Feld wrote for the Frankfurter Neue Presse : “As in the debut, the Mainz-based company mixed the dramatic and melodramatic here quite skillfully. The fact that the relatives of the two titular heroes appear again and again and that the employees of the "Tölz Advice Center" meet regularly at the beautifully set breakfast table creates less tension than a decidedly familiar atmosphere.
