Tony Jeapes

Antony (Tony) Showan Jeapes CB OBE MC (born March 6, 1935 in New Malden , Surrey , now a borough of London , England ) is a British Army officer who retired as major general in 1990 .

Life

Jeapes went to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst after graduation . As a lieutenant , he was assigned to the 22nd Special Air Service Regiment, which was then stationed in Malaysia , for the first time in 1958 . With this he took part in actions against insurgents in Jebel Akhdar in northern Oman in 1959 . He was awarded the Military Cross for his success there .

After various training courses, including in Fort Bragg (North Carolina) with American special forces , Jeapes returned to Malaya as Squadron Commander in 1968. From there he was posted to Oman in 1970 with the 22nd SAS Regiment to take part in the fighting against communist insurgents in Dhofar . After the successful conclusion of the six-year Dhofar War, he was awarded an OBE .

Further military career

Jeapes was able to bring his experience from his work in Oman to various courses at home and abroad and in the 1980s became the commander of all British land forces in Northern Ireland , which supported the local police, the Royal Ulster Constabulary , in the fight against terrorists on both sides. His work in Northern Ireland was recognized as a Companion to the Order of the Bath CB . Most recently, Jeapes served as Major General in command of the UK Mobile Force , the UK's contribution to the Allied Command Europe Mobile Force (ACE).

Jeapes is married. The couple have a son and a daughter.
