Tota is a municipality ( municipio ) in the department of Boyacá in Colombia on Lake Tota .

geography

Tota is located 2870 m above sea level in the eastern cordillera of the Andes , 40 km south of Sogamoso . The average temperature is 12 ° Celsius. The municipality borders on Cuítiva to the north, Aquitania to the east and south-east and Pesca to the west and south-west .

history

The area of today's Tota was inhabited by the Chibcha before the arrival of the Spaniards . Tota was founded on February 1, 1535 by Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada .
