Samaca is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Boyacá in Colombia .

geography

Samacá is located in the Department of Boyacá in the province of Centro , 32 km from Tunja and 159 km from Bogotá , in the Colombian Andes . The municipality borders Sáchica , Sora and Cucaita in the north, Tunja and Ventaquemada in the east, Ventaquemada, Ráquira and Guachetá in the Cundinamarca department in the south and Ráquira in the west.

Demographics

The municipality of Samacá has 20,767 inhabitants, of which 6,250 live in the urban part (cabecera municipal) of the municipality (as of 2019).

history

Samacá goes back to settlements from pre-colonial times. Samacá was founded in Spain in 1556.
