Tour de Timor 2013
The Tour de Timor 2013 was the fifth edition of the annual mountain bike race in East Timor .
The 2013 tour started on September 2nd. The first stage led 118 km from Dili to Baucau. On September 3, the route continued from Baucau to Ossu . A day later we went 114 km to Same . The 76 km stage to Aileu followed on September 5th and finally 98 km back to Dili on the last day. 290 drivers were registered. The participants came from East Timor, Australia, the USA, South Africa, Portugal, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Belgium, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. However, only about 60 drivers started. Others boycotted the event in protest that the Ministry of Tourism was taking over the organization of the race . The list of the final order at the end of the tour only includes 48 riders.
The men's winner in 18:25:24 was the Malaysian Sharhin Bin Amir , best East Timorese Jacinto da Costa in 5th place with a gap of 51:14 to the first place. In the women’s category, Francelina Cabral from East Timor won in 25:03:02.
The budget for the 2013 tour was $ 200,000. The main sponsor was Timor Telecom . Support came from the National Police , the armed forces , the fire brigade , the health and finance ministries and the East Timorese Cyclists Association ( Associação de Ciclismo timorense ). In addition to the dismantling of the previous organizational teams, drivers criticized the fact that, contrary to previous practice and the announcement, some streets were not closed to normal traffic, which led to dangerous situations.
