The Tour de Timor 2009 was the first edition of the annual mountain bike race in East Timor .

The implementation was already planned in 2006, but then there were riots , so that the sporting event had to be canceled. In 2009 the security situation was stable enough to host international sporting events.

The route passed through nine of the country's 13 districts and began at the presidential palace in Dili , from where it led 128 kilometers along the coast to Baucau . On the second day we went through the inland to the district of Viqueque with a 20-kilometer climb to Loi-Huno , followed by an 80-kilometer drive along the south coast. On the fourth day, the route from the coastal town of Betano led 70 kilometers to Maubisse . The highest point of the route was 1835  m at the peak called Horta’s Heartbreak Hill by the drivers . On the last day, a 95-kilometer route through the coffee-growing region of East Timor led back to Dili.
