Toyotsu ( Japanese 豊 津 町 , - machi ) was a city in Miyako-gun in the Japanese prefecture of Fukuoka .

history

Remains from the Altstein , Jōmon , Yayoi and Kofun periods have been found in Toyotsu .

Since remains of provincial government buildings ( Kokufu ) and the provincial temple have been found in Toyotsu , it is believed that it was the capital of Buzen province .

After Ogasawara Tadanobu , the daimyo of the Han (fief) Kokura , at war with the Han Chōshū the castle Kokura burn left, he moved in 1866 to feud seat after Kawara and 1870 by Toyotsu. With the abolition of the Han on August 29, 1871, Toyotsu became the capital of the short-lived Toyotsu Prefecture , which was incorporated into Kokura Prefecture on December 25 of the same year .

In 1876, Toyotsu was a battlefield for the Akizuki uprising , one of many uprisings against the government by the recently abolished samurai caste.

On April 10, 1943, the Mura Setsumaru ( 節 丸 村 , -mura ) was incorporated into the Mura Toyotsu ( 豊 津 村 , -mura ). The appointment to Machi took place on March 1, 1955 with the incorporation of parts of the Mura Haraigō ( 祓 郷 村 , -mura ).

Toyotsu merged with Saigawa and Katsuyama on March 20, 2006 to form the new Machi Miyako .

Toyotsu is home to the Toyotsu, Setsumaru and Haraigō elementary schools, the Toyotsu Middle School, which is supported by the city, and the Ikutokukan Middle and High School, which is supported by the prefecture, in which middle and high schools are combined.
