Miyako ( Japanese み や こ 町 , - machi ) is a city in Miyako-gun in the Japanese prefecture of Fukuoka .

history

Miyako was formed on March 20, 2006 from the merger of the Machi Katsuyama , Saigawa and Toyotsu .

Remains from the Altstein , Jōmon , Yayoi and Kofun periods have been found in Toyotsu .

Since remains of the buildings of the provincial administration ( Kokufu ) and a provincial temple were found in Toyotsu , it is assumed that it was the capital of the province of Buzen .

After Ogasawara Tadanobu , the daimyo of the Han (fief) Kokura , at war with the Han Chōshū the castle Kokura burn left, he moved in 1866 to feud seat after Kawara and 1870 by Toyotsu. With the abolition of the Han on August 29, 1871, Toyotsu became the capital of the short-lived Toyotsu Prefecture , which was incorporated into Kokura Prefecture on December 25 of the same year .

In 1876, Toyotsu was a battlefield for the Akizuki uprising , one of many uprisings against the government by the recently abolished samurai caste.

The Toyotsu district is home to the Toyotsu, Setsumaru and Haraigō elementary schools, the Toyotsu city-run middle school, and the Ikutokukan middle and high school run by the prefecture, which combines middle and high schools.

The Saigawa, Kamitakaya, Yanase, Kii and Irahara elementary schools and the Saigawa and Irahara middle schools are located in the Saigawa district.
