Yame ( Japanese 八 女 市 , -shi , literally: eight women ) is a Japanese city in the south of Fukuoka Prefecture on the island of Kyushu .

geography

Yame is south of Fukuoka and Kurume , and north of Kumamoto .

history

The city was formed in 1954 from a small town ( 福島 町 Fukushima-chō ) and three villages ( 川 崎 村 Kawasaki-mura , 忠 見 村 tadami-mura , 岡山 村 Okayama-mura ) of Yame County . On February 1, 2010, Hoshino , Kurogi , Tachibana and Yabe were incorporated into the city of Yame.

Attractions

There are several ancient barrows in the vicinity of the city, including the keyhole-shaped Iwatoyama- Kofun ( 岩 戸 山 古墳 ).
