The Trais-Horloffer See , colloquially also called Inheidener See , is a lake in the Wetterau lake district on the northern edge of the Wetterau , a plain between the two low mountain ranges Taunus and Vogelsberg . It is located about 40 km north of Frankfurt am Main in the area of the city of Hungen between the districts of Inheiden and Trais-Horloff in the district of Giessen in the state of Hesse .

The quarry pond, which arose from a former open-cast lignite mine , has a water surface of 35.1 hectares and is up to 27.2 m deep. In the early 1960s, a local recreation and weekend area gradually emerged on the shores of the lake .

On the north shore of the lake are located from west to east

  • a paid parking lot (also for mobile homes ) with toilet facilities and disposal facilities for camping toilets ,
  • some weekend houses with lake access,
  • a lawn without lake access,
  • the club area of the sailing club Inheiden (SCI),
  • the rescue station of the DLRG local group Butzbach , which is manned on weekends from May to September ,
  • a kiosk and
  • an approx. 500 m long sunbathing lawn with toilets and direct lake access (with shallow water area) extending to the northern part of the east bank (here a café).

On the east bank in the southern area there is the club area of the Traiser sailing community (TSG), another lawn with lake access via stairs and - a little away from the lake - another kiosk, a toilet facility, a parking lot and the train stop on the Gießen-Gelnhausen railway line .

The village of Trais-Horloff , whose church can be seen from afar, borders the southern shore of the lake .
