Trash talk

Trash-talk is commonly a verbal psychological warfare that takes place at the level of interpersonal communication . It is fought in the form of insults and is often characterized by the use of metaphors , exaggerations and puns .

It can turn out to be a quarrel and in a social interaction , such as sport , is above all a strategic means to provoke the opponent and to motivate oneself through it. In hip-hop culture , trash talk has established itself as a beef .

Humorous or ironic trash talk, on the other hand, is conducted as entertainment on a friendly relationship level , for example .

In sports

In boxing , Muhammad Ali was known for his trash talk during his active career in the 1960s and 1970s . In 1963, Ali released a full-length album, mostly made up of trash talk poems. It was titled I am the Greatest ; this ascription ( The Greatest) became his battle name.

In wrestling and also for mixed martial arts opponents, it has become common to use trash talk before the fight (usually for the purpose of publicity ) as well as during a fight. While former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen is considered by some to be the greatest trash talker in UFC history, Conor McGregor is another UFC person who has made a name for himself with it.

In English football , the Wealdstone Raider , a fan of Wealdstone FC from Harrow , north-west London, was known for verbally attacking the opposition and opposition fans. In German football , Uli Borowka , among others, attracted attention through trash talk during his active career.

Although trash talk is common to practically all sports, some have developed their own name for it: in cricket it is sledging (hammering) and in ice hockey it is called chirping (chirping).

Trash talk is difficult to differentiate due to its aggressive nature from defamation , bullying and cyber bullying . It could therefore be considered unsportsmanlike behavior in sport by the referee.

The sports journalism speaks beyond some former and current athletes who express themselves accordingly and expressed have a certain eloquence and rhetorical talent to.
