Reviews

Heidi Strobel from the Film Service thinks that the politically justified turnaround in the film would actually be the material for a comedy of confusion that ruthlessly and viciously pokes fun at the GDR's film system and ingeniously deals with the problems of appearance and reality. However, the staging does not use its capital. Instead, she demonstrates with great pomp the industrial studio system that repeatedly cites itself, such as the glamor of its stars, lavishly furnished backdrops and grandiose effects. This prevents the harmonious drawing of the characters as well as contemporary life and creates worn images that sometimes freeze in grand gestures or kitsch when it rains red roses for the lovers, Strobel continues.

Gross profit

In Germany, the film recorded 113,708 visitors.

Honors

Traumfabrik was included in the preselection for the German Film Prize at the beginning of January 2020 , but was not taken into account when the regular nominations were announced.
