The Tribulaunhütte , also known as the Tribulaunhaus , is a refuge in the Stubai Alps . It is located at 2064 meters above sea level south of Gschnitz in the Gschnitztal in the Austrian state of Tyrol and belongs to the Naturfreunde tourist association .

history

Tribulaunhütte in the 1960s

The Italian Tribulaunhütte has been on Italian territory since the First World War and the Treaty of Saint-Germain and was difficult to get to "because of passport difficulties". For this reason, considerations arose to build a hut on Austrian territory. A makeshift hut with 12 beds was built in 1921. On August 13, 1922, the Tribulaunhütte with 16 beds and 12 mattress dorms was opened next to it. In 1927 it was expanded to 88 beds and 40 mattresses. On February 28, 1935, the refuge was "torn away" by a dust avalanche . A new hut was built on the site and opened in August 1936. This hut was again destroyed by an avalanche in March 1975. The third Tribulaunhütte with 24 beds and 36 mattresses was opened in 1979. In 2014 the hut was renovated.

Approach

The ascent to the hut can be made from Gschnitz in 2½ hours and from Obernberg am Brenner in a good 3 hours. The access road from Gschnitz can be used with mountain bikes .

Tribulaun race

Since 1962, when the hut opens in early June, the Tribulaun race has been held above the hut every year. According to ÖSV rules, the Giant Slalom is held by Naturefriends together with the Gschnitz Ski Club. In the absence of climbing aids, the participants carry their skis a few hundred meters from the hut to the start.
