Vinyltrimethoxysilane is a chemical compound from the group of organosilicon compounds and alkyloxysilanes . The compound is on the list of CoRAP substances .

properties

Vinyltrimethoxysilane is a highly flammable, light yellow liquid with a fruity odor that decomposes in water.

use

Vinyltrimethoxysilane is used as a chemical intermediate in the manufacture of other chemicals or as a monomer in the manufacture of vinyl-functional silicone polymers. The use of vinyltrimethoxysilane in coatings is said to improve the adhesion between organic polymers and mineral surfaces such as pigments, fillers and glass or metal substrates. It is used in decorative water-based coating products and also as a crosslinker and adhesion promoter in commercially available silicone sealants.

safety instructions

The vapors of vinyltrimethoxysilane can form an explosive mixture with air ( flash point 23 ° C, ignition temperature 235 ° C).
