Tropico 2: The Pirate Island is the second part of a six-part computer game series called Tropico from the economic simulation genre , which is set on a fictional Caribbean island of the same name. In contrast to the other versions of the series, the player takes command of a pirate base in the Caribbean in the second part .

Game flow

The player takes over the management of the island "Tropico" as a mighty pirate king. In this part of the series it is your job as a privateer to rob ships of other nations and to take prisoners. There are two population groups on your own island, pirates and prisoners, who live on the island. Due to the different needs and desires - pirates like anarchy , prisoners prefer order - it is difficult to place both of them on the island, since the pirates need the prisoners as labor (for example in bars or for cannon production), but so do the prisoners need to provide. So you have the task of bringing pirates and prisoners into harmony on the island and also preventing the prisoners from fleeing the island if they are not afraid of the pirates enough . The game has been expanded to include a strategic map of the Caribbean, on which the player gives his pirate captains destinations for various missions. In summary, the gameplay of Tropico 2 can best be described as a mixture of SimCity and a little Pirates! describe.

Development history

For Tropico 2 there was a limited, much more expensive special edition with all kinds of postcards, mouse pads, wallpapers and an invented pirate treasure map. Later, the promotion to have Kalypso under Tropico 3 , Tropico 1 and 2 together in a Reloaded - Bundle released on DVD and Steam.

reception

Part 2 did not reach the sales of the predecessor. The numerous good ratings (80% at GameStar ) could not prevent the failure.
