Truro ( Cornish Truru or Tryverow ) is the administrative seat of the English county of Cornwall and the southernmost city of the United Kingdom , which bears the title City .
The city has 19,134 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Truro is in the heart of Cornwall, at the confluence of the Kenwyn and Allen Rivers that make up the Truro River .
history
The area around Truro has been populated since the Iron Age, as is shown by finds near Carvossa. In the 12th century, at the time of King Henry II , Richard de Luci built a castle on the site where the Truro Court is now. Remains of the Norman castle were discovered there during excavations a few years ago.
By the 14th century, Truro had grown into a major port city and was also one of the five tin mining towns in Cornwall. Queen Elizabeth I granted Truro city rights in the 16th century. At this point, Truro also controlled the port of Falmouth and was a thriving place.
Industrialization began in Truro in the 17th and 18th centuries. Tin smelters , iron foundries, pottery and tanneries settled in the city area. When tin prices rose in the 18th and 19th centuries, Truro flourished. The city was nicknamed "London of Cornwall" and in 1876 it was declared an episcopal see by the "Bishopric of Truro Bill". It was the city's first bishop, Edward White Benson , who gave the decisive impetus for the construction of Truro Cathedral . In 1877 Queen Victoria granted the city the status of a city and three years later construction of the cathedral began.

Truro became known worldwide as the namesake of a famous steam locomotive : On May 9, 1904, the City of Truro of the Great Western Railway broke through the limit of 100 English miles an hour (approx. 160 km / h) for the first time on a test run.
If Georgia is not part of Europe , tea is now only grown in Europe on the Azores island of São Miguel and in Truro.
