Trutz is a German television film directed by Hans-Werner Honert and produced in 1991.

action

Trutz and Stani are good friends in the still young GDR . They like the music of the Beatles and fast motorcycles. One day, Stani's father gave them a package from the West that included jeans , which at the time were a sign of Western decadence in the GDR . As such, they are at the same time a sign of rebellion if one dares to show oneself in them. That's exactly what the two of them do by wearing the jeans in high school.

Director Steiner does not want to tolerate this sign. She was in a concentration camp and is convinced of the justice of her cause. First of all, the matter should be resolved silently, because Trutz is the friend of her daughter Brigitte and possibly her son-in-law in the foreseeable future.

However, the students do not give in even after greater pressure. Finally, the power struggle escalates to the point where they are denied access to high school . Steiner's colleague Steffen tries to mediate, but has no success.

Trutz manages to persuade Hoffmann to produce jeans in the tailor's shop, because after all there is a great need for that. Almost all young people are dying to have jeans. Hoffmann has the West pants produced, but soon receives a visit from "above" and the instruction to destroy the jeans.

Stani finally gives in, exercises self-criticism and is again admitted to high school. But the friendship between Stani, Trutz and Brigitte breaks under the strain, and Brigitte's previously trusting relationship with her mother is severely shaken.

Trutz has to accept the destruction of the entire production helplessly. He strips down to his jeans and walks out into the rain in the middle of the street.
