The Chatkal ( Kyrgyz Чаткал ; Uzbek Chatqol ; Russian Чатка́л , also Каракульджа Karakuldscha ) is a source of the Chirchiq in Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan .
The Chatkal rises on the southwest flank of the Talas-Alatau in the Kyrgyz region of Jalalabat . It flows in a south-westerly direction through the mountains. The mountain range of the Chatkal Mountains extends east of the river . In the lower reaches of the Chatkal flows through the Besh -Aral nature reserve , later turns to the west and reaches the Uzbek province of Tashkent . He finally ends after 223 km in the south-eastern end of the lake charvak -Stausees which the Syr Darya drained influx Chirchiq.
Its catchment area covers 7110 km². The Chatkal is mainly fed by the snowmelt . The mean discharge (MQ) near the mouth is 122 m³ / s, the largest discharge is 920 m³ / s. Kanysch-Kyja , the administrative center of the Chatkal Rajon , is located on the central reaches of the Chatkal.
Tschingis Aitmatow describes in his story Eye in Eye ("Лицом к лицу", 1958), which takes place during the kulak persecution and the Second World War, the planned escape route over a pass to a safe place in the Chatkal valley. Ingo Kühl refers to this description in his painting Transition to Chatkal (1996, private collection).
