The Cheboksarsky Sawod Promyschlennych Traktorow ( Russian Чебоксарский завод промышленных тракторов , in German Cheboksarsk Industrial Tractor Plant ) is a former Soviet and now Russian company in Cheboksary in Chuvashien . Founded in 1972 for the construction of chain tractors , today it mainly produces construction machinery and tracked vehicles, especially bulldozers . Since 1993 the company has been operating as an open joint-stock company under the name Promtraktor ( ПАО «Промтрактор» ), the vehicles have been marketed under the brand name TschETRA , in Russian ЧЕТРА , since 2002 . The Russian group Traktornyje Sawody was built up by the new private owners starting in 2005 from Promtraktor .

Until 2002, the company used the abbreviation TschSPT (Russian ЧЗПТ ). Today this abbreviation is used as a brand for construction machinery by the Russian Chelyabinsky Zavod Promyschlennych Traktorow , an independent company that belongs neither historically nor economically to the original Soviet factory.

Company history

In 1971 , in order to encourage the development of important industries such as mining and the oil industry , the Council of Ministers of the USSR passed a resolution to build a new plant for the production of trucks and one for the production of heavy construction machinery. While the KamAZ plant went into operation in 1976, the new tractor plant was built in Cheboksary from January 1972. To train the later workforce, specialists from other Soviet plants were called in, including from the Charkowski Traktorny Sawod , the Volgogradski Traktorny Sawod and the Pavlodarsky Traktorny Sawod . In the first expansion stage, production capacities of 5000 heavy chain tractors per year were planned, of which 4000 with 330 and 1000 with 500 hp.

The first building went into operation at the end of 1974, and in 1975 the first six T-330 tractors were manufactured. By 1976 the number of employees rose to over 5,000. In the following years the production volume was continuously increased and further parts of the company were put into operation. At the same time, the designers developed a pipelayer based on the T-330, the first prototype was built in 1977, and series production was approved in 1980. In 1980 the series production of the heavy bulldozer T-500 with 500 hp began. In 1981 350 vehicles were produced, on September 1, 1982 the 1000th machine left the factory.

In the 1980s, on the one hand, the number of vehicles produced was increased and, on the other hand, new machines were developed in parallel. The 5,000th bulldozer left the plant in February 1986, the 10,000. as early as the end of August 1988. In 1985 a new series of chain tractors was introduced, some of which are still being built today, with modifications. In 1989 the first prototype of a bulldozer with 750 HP (type T50.01) was manufactured.

After the collapse of the Soviet Union , wheeled vehicles were also included in its production program. At the end of 1993, the Cheboksarsk industrial tractor plant was transferred from a state-owned company to an open joint stock company. In this context, the name was also changed to Promtraktor . In the years that followed, several new bulldozers and pipelayers were added to production, especially models that were smaller than the machines built in Soviet times. In 2002 the new brand TschETRA (ЧЕТРА) was introduced and the Soviet abbreviation TschSPT (ЧЗПТ) was no longer used. Today it is used by another construction machinery manufacturer from Chelyabinsk for their products. In mid-2005, Promtraktor became part of the newly founded Traktornyje Sawody Group , and since then the machines have been marketed exclusively through the TschETRA brand sales network.

As of 2019, the company is still producing bulldozers and pipelayers at the Cheboksary site and also purchases essential components from western companies such as Bosch , Cummins Engine or the AKG Group .
