Claude Lamoureux (* around 1650 ; † after 1699 ) was a French-born sculptor who worked in Sweden and Copenhagen ( Denmark ). He is best known for helping his brother create the first equestrian statue in Northern Europe.

life and work

The date and place of birth of Claude Lamoureux are unknown. He was the younger brother of the sculptor Abraham César Lamoureux , and he had a younger sister Magdalene, 1660 in Hamburg ( Germany was born).

He probably came to Sweden with his stepfather Jean Baptist Dieussart , who entered the service of the Swedish Chancellor Count Magnus Gabriel De la Gardie in 1664 . Like his brother, Lamoureux was likely an apprentice or assistant to his stepfather.

In 1681 Lamoureux, his siblings and their families (his brother's family and his sister's husband, the Swedish sculptor and stonemason Johann Gustav Stockenberg ) moved to Copenhagen in Denmark, where his brother Abraham-César worked as court sculptor for King Christian V. had been employed by Denmark .

Around 1685 Lamoureux married Anne Marie Pedersdatter Stephensen from Copenhagen, who bore him four children between 1686 and 1698. From 1686 he was employed as his brother's assistant with an annual salary of 100 Danish Rigsdalers. After the death of his brother in April 1692 (Abraham César was buried in the Trinity Church in Copenhagen on April 27, 1692 ), he finished his brother's work in 1695 and added four allegorical statues to the pedestal of the equestrian statue of Christian V.

In 1699 Lamoureux resigned from the service of the Danish court and received travel expenses for his departure from Denmark. His whereabouts are unknown, as is the date and place of his death.
