Tubocurarine is a neurotoxin . As the main component of Tubocurare, it is one of the arrow poisons , which are collectively referred to as curare .

Occurrence

Tubocurarine is found in Chondrodendron tomentosum and other plants of the genus.

Mode of action

Tubocurarine competitively occupies the nicotinic acetylcholine receptors of the postsynaptic membrane. The ligand- controlled sodium ion channels are blocked , with no depolarization being triggered. Tubocurarine paralyzes the striated muscles of the musculoskeletal system and is known as a non-depolarizing muscle relaxant .

pharmacy

Tubocurarine is used as a pharmaceutical active ingredient as chloride hydrochloride pentahydrate. It was used in the preparation Intocostrin in 1942 to relax muscles during anesthesia.
