Tyler Blanton

Tyler Blanton (born May 8, 1981 in Ventura ) is an American jazz musician ( vibraphone , composition ).

Blanton, who grew up in California, first learned guitar and drums. An early exploration of jazz came through his grandfather Joe Cavaglieri, who worked as a tenor saxophonist on the Los Angeles scene. Blanton quickly turned to mallet instruments in music school . After studying at the California Institute of the Arts , Blanton graduated from Sonoma State University in 2006 with a degree in music .

Blanton began working as a jazz musician in the San Francisco Bay Area in 2001 . The first recordings were made in 2007 with the band of guitarist Randy Vincent ( Nisha's Dream ). Since the same year he lived in New York, where he appeared in the following years with his own formations in which musicians such as Luis Perdomo , Nate Radley , George DeLancey , Eric McPherson and Billy Drummond played. He played with his bands in jazz clubs such as 55 Bar, The Living Room, Blue Note and Smalls . He recorded his debut album Botanic in 2010 with Joel Frahm , Aidan Carroll , Dan Loomis , Richie Barshay and Jared Schonig. The production Gotham followed in 2018 (with Donny McCaslin , Matt Clohesy , Nate Wood), which received an honorable mention in All About Jazz . In the field of jazz he was involved in three recording sessions between 2007 and 2012.
