The Deutz Technische Hochschule underground station is a station on lines 1 and 9 of the Cologne Stadtbahn in the Deutz district . The underground station is located directly under Deutz-Kalker Straße near the TH Köln and the Lanxess-Arena . Until 2008, the station in the railways was announced as "Deutz-Kalker Bad / Fachhochschule / Kölnarena". When the timetable changed in December 2012, the station was completely renamed “Deutz University of Applied Sciences”. With the timetable change on December 13, 2015, the stop was renamed again - to "Deutz Technical University". The addition "Lanxess-Arena" is added to the announcements in the railways.

The stop was opened on March 10, 1983 as part of the third construction phase of the Deutz-Kalker U-Bahn . This construction phase included the Deutz-Kalker Bad and Deutz / Messe subway stations , the two tunnel ramps in Mindener Straße and Deutz-Kalker Straße, a four-track, underground parking facility for 16 light rail vehicles, which takes up almost the entire length of the tunnel between the two stops, and various advance payments for later expansions.

The design of the stop is similar to the underground stations of the first construction stage, there are two side platforms, which are four steps below the entrances from the mezzanine level. The outer walls are predominantly tiled in yellow, structured by a horizontal white stripe with stop signs and dark blue frames. The station is used by around 11,100 passengers every day. Retrofitting with elevators and ramps for barrier-free access is planned.

Planning status at the beginning of the 1980s (planned new routes dashed, routes that are no longer available are marked in red)

At the western end of the underground station there is a junction at the same level that leads to a ramp to the surface and connects to the route of lines 3 and 4 on the Gotenring. This junction was initially used by line 9 (at that time Chorweiler – Severinsbrücke – Königsforst). One year before the delivery of the first low-floor light rail cars, the network was cleaned up for the first time in 1994, as a result of which the branch is only used as an operating line . With the commissioning of the Merheim depot , however, this connection is of great importance for the entire light rail operation. This was particularly evident when on Saturday, March 29, 2003 at 4:54 a.m., an outbound train on line 12 derailed at the Deutz Fachhochschule junction and hit a pillar: the Merheim depot was cut off from most of the network by noon. Although single wagons were used on all lines instead of the usual double traction , only 80 percent of the trips on the already reduced Saturday timetable could be made.

In addition, the underground station contains preliminary work for several projects that have since been discarded: The branch to Gotenring is prepared to be connected to a tunnel on lines 3/4 to the south. Opposite the branch there is a tunnel connection for a connecting curve, which should be connected to a tunnel of the lines 3/4 to the north. At the eastern end of the underground station there are tunnel nozzles on both sides of the track for a height-free extension that would have connected a line through Humboldt / Gremberg . This route was to connect to the existing route of Line 7 in Poll and replace its route via Siegburger Strasse.
