The Rochusplatz underground station (until 2019 Äußere Kanalstraße ) is a station of the Cologne Stadtbahn and is located on the border between the districts of Bickendorf and Ehrenfeld at the intersection of Venloer Straße / Äußere Kanalstraße. The station is served as planned by lines 3 and 4 of the Cologne transport company.

The underground station was opened on May 30, 1992 as part of the second construction phase of the underground tunnel under Venloer Straße. Before the station Äußere Kanalstrasse was named, the station was originally supposed to be named Rochusplatz , as it was planned during the construction period to convert the area above Rochusstrasse, Rochuskapelle and Bickendorfer swimming pool into a square with an amphitheater . Because the Cologne transport company did not want to name an underground station after a place that did not (yet) exist, the name Bickendorf was meanwhile under discussion. Ultimately, the station was called Äussere Kanalstraße and the previously existing stop of line 5 of the same name was renamed Iltisstraße / Äußere Kanalstraße . Today this stop is only called Iltisstraße . With the timetable change 2019/2020 of the Cologne Transport, was on 15 December 2019, the station exterior Kanalstraße in Rochusplatz renamed.

Like all tunnel stations along Venloer Straße, a hall with a central platform and external tracks was chosen here. The platform was designed as an elevated platform and has an elevator to the surface, which means that the underground station was barrier-free from the start. The platform has exits at both ends, one to Bickendorf and one to Ehrenfeld. There are intermediate levels at both exits.

The track level is located in a larger hall that is artistically designed. Particularly striking are here three large sewer pipes of the outer main drain water collector, the "exterior of the channel extends street" that run under the ceiling across the subway station. The sewer pipes are kept in red, blue and yellow and are enhanced by the lighting design by Hans T. v. Malotki and Robin Uber particularly highlighted.

On the route towards the city center of the stop, there is a single-track turning system between the tracks, which is technically unfavorable for trains coming from the city and ending at Rochusplatz. This affects the trains on Line 4 in the evening hours and on Sunday mornings. These trains are signposted with the destination Rochusplatz .

On November 12, 2008, a burning train on line 3 entered the station in the direction of the city center. The fire was discovered at the Akazienweg underground station . There were seven injured due to the heavy smoke development. 185 rescue workers were on duty, and the affected car suffered a total economic loss.
