location

The station is located in the Ehrenfeld district under Venloer Strasse , which leads out of Cologne in a north-westerly direction . There it is at the intersection of Venloer Straße with the Ehrenfeldgürtel and Heliosstraße. Another exit leads to the Cologne-Ehrenfeld train station of the Deutsche Bahn and Schönsteinstrasse, thus also to the hospital there and the Ehrenfeld district town hall. The train station is very centrally located in the Ehrenfeld district.

architecture

S-Bahn and local trains stop above ground at Cologne-Ehrenfeld station . The tram line 13 runs at ground level across the Ehrenfeldgürtel .

The subway station has intermediate levels at both exits. The central platform is designed as a high-floor platform, with the existing elevator to the street the station is therefore barrier-free. However, this only applies to a limited extent to the options for changing to S-Bahn and railroad. The intermediate levels and the platform level of the subway station are artistically designed. The artist Karl Heinz Marohn has z. B. 24 topics from Ehrenfeld's history are listed in a "library"; The color of the floor should be reminiscent of the clay-fired bricks from the 19th century.
