The underground station St.-Quirin-Platz is an architecturally unique station of the Munich underground in the district of Obergiesing on the border to the district of Harlaching .
A glass dome spans the middle of the station. Building the dome was not easy, as it had to be inexpensive to manufacture and also meet the aesthetic requirements of the building department. The counter hall is located at ground level in the dome, from which escalators, fixed stairs and elevators lead to the platform level. The station was opened on November 8, 1997 as part of the expansion of the U1 line. Since there is a disabled facility nearby, the station was the only one to be equipped with two elevators located directly next to each other. The back track walls consist of rough and untreated bored piles. There you can also see reddish discoloration. The ceiling above the platform is equipped with reflective aluminum panels to create a generous spatial effect.
The planning of the shell and the glass roof came from Paul Kramer and Manfred Rossiwal-Jespersen (subway department) and the glass roof construction from Ulrich Elsner. The interior design concept comes from Hermann + Öttl, Munich.
The first planning of the route did not include the station at all, but since a station distance of 1.4 kilometers was too long, it was decided to build a station in the immediate vicinity of the Mittlerer Ring .
