The regional bus network of the MVV network districts is organized by MVV GmbH. It has a route length of around 4,289 km and is used by around 700 buses. It serves the connection of the surrounding area to the state capital Munich and the local public transport.

Bus network

The line numbers were assigned according to the respective district in which the line operates. Each 100 numbers are assigned to the following districts:

There are five different types of bus routes:

  • Regional buses : normal type of bus line : e.g. line 210
  • Call buses : like the regional buses, but some stops are only served after a call: e.g. line 561
  • Call taxis : trips according to the timetable, but can only be booked by phone. The operation is mostly used to bridge breaks in operation, e.g. B. at night or on Sundays. As an example: line 7270
  • Express buses : like regional buses, only stops at selected stops: only lines X845, X900, X910
  • Night buses : like regional buses, only run at night: only lines N80, N81, N272.

MVV policy

MVV quality management

In contrast to the uniform blue of the MVG vehicles, the regional buses have been painted mainly green, white and blue since 2002, with the white and blue standing for the colors of the Bavarian diamonds and the color green for the region. The white stripe on the buses usually has a MVV slogan, which changes annually. Since 2002, MVV GmbH has been defining so-called quality guidelines for new tenders , in which, in addition to the paintwork of the vehicles, accessibility, wheelchair space, air conditioning, TFT screens for stop display, automatic stop announcements and the sale of the almost complete range of Verbund tickets are stipulated. In 2007 the display of a news ticker was added to the TFT monitors, which is fed by the digital radio of the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation. Since September 2008, several hybrid buses have been gradually put into operation on the MVV regional bus routes.

Planning

MVV GmbH plans the timetables for regional bus services on behalf of the administrative districts and then commissions around 40 regional and national transport companies to implement them. The assignment takes place via Europe-wide tenders. The surcharge is mostly based on financial considerations.

Purpose of the bus network

The MVV regional bus lines provide extensive links between the Munich area and the S-Bahn network , the cross-connection between individual S-Bahn lines and the detailed development of the regional districts. School traffic is also partially taken over. Special trips can also occur here.

Special lines

Since the timetable change on December 15, 2019, line 232, the so-called "Ortsbus Unterföhring", has only been operated by Solaris electric buses. The annual costs are around 3.5 million euros.

Not and partially integrated lines

In addition to the MVV regional bus lines, there are other lines in the districts that are partially or not at all integrated into the tariff association and on which the operator's own tickets are offered or the MVV ticket range is only partially recognized. This includes:

  • former non-integrated lines:
    • Isarau bus in Unterföhring
    • Call collective taxi in Freising, integrated into the MVV tariff since December 2018
