The Westfriedhof underground station is an underground station on the Munich underground . It is located on the second trunk line on the border between the Neuhausen-Nymphenburg and Moosach districts of the Bavarian capital, Munich .

The station built below Orpheusstrasse was opened to traffic on May 24, 1998. The underground station is served by the underground line U1. In addition, since December 12, 2011, it has been the end point of the U7 reinforcement line, which only runs during rush hour. There is a link to other Munich local transport lines at above-ground stops on the tram network.

It was the terminus of the U1 from 1998 to 2003 and is the terminus of Tram 21 . Because of its lighting design (draft: Ingo Maurer ) it is occasionally used as a photo motif by advertising agencies and the special atmosphere has also been used as a record cover. The light comes from eleven lamps, each 3.80 meters in diameter, which have lights in blue, red and yellow. Sunlight falls in at the western end. Thus the platform is divided into different colors. Together with the rough walls, the station is reminiscent of a cave. The architect originally planned to have a pane of glass in front of the walls, but he liked it better that way. However, in 2003 the walls had to be secured with a steel net, as individual chunks had repeatedly loosened from the wall. The mezzanine floor can be reached via escalators, fixed stairs and a lift. From there you can also reach the surface via escalators and fixed stairs and a lift, where there is a connection to tram 20 to Moosach and to tram lines 20 and 21 in the direction of the city center.
