The Gern U-Bahn station is an underground station on the Munich U-Bahn . It is located on the second main route in the Gern district of the same name in the Bavarian capital of Munich .
The train station built below Waisenhausstrasse was opened to traffic on May 23, 1998. It opens up the neighboring residential areas. The underground station is served by the underground lines U1 and U7. There is no connection with other Munich local transport lines.
history
According to the plans of 1989, the station should be 185 meters further south. The government of Upper Bavaria decided a year later that the station should be built in a north-facing position due to more evenly spaced stations and better passenger forecasts, but this meant an increase in construction costs of three million DM and an extension of the construction period by a few months.
Station complex
The outside is sloping because of the cramped conditions on the surface. The reason for this is that Waisenhausstraße could not be completely closed during the construction phase. The walls of the station are made of blue glazed exposed concrete , on which glass plates are attached, on which part of Gern's history is written. The light from nine light pyramids is reflected by the light granite floor. Lifts, escalators and fixed stairs lead to the access level and the surface at both ends of the platform. The nine light pyramids built into the ceiling by the Cologne company Lichtdesign were fitted into the spaces between the stiffeners of the station building and create the impression that daylight is falling through them from above. They are accessible through an unused cavity above the platform. Defective lamps can be replaced from there. Due to the diaphragm wall and cover construction method , such cavities exist at many subway stations.
traffic
The Gern underground station is located on the second main line of the Munich underground network. It is served by the northern branch of the U1 line, which runs on this route in parts together with the U2. In addition, the U7 amplifier line, which only runs during rush hour, has been in operation since December 12, 2011. There are no transfer options to other lines in the Munich local transport network.
The residential areas there and the Olympic shopping center can be reached via the line from Moosach . The U3 line, which crosses at the underground station of the same name, connects to the Olympiapark . In the south there is a connection to the central transfer points Hauptbahnhof and Sendlinger Tor . There you can change to the other two main lines of the underground and the S-Bahn . In the further course of the U1, the suburbs of Untergiesing and Harlaching to the south are connected.
