The Wettersteinplatz U-Bahn station is a station on the Munich U-Bahn .
The train station is in Untergiesing and is named after the square above, which in turn is named after the mountain range . The station was opened on November 8, 1997 and is served by the U1. It is comparatively low, as the subway coming from Candidplatz has to climb the Giesinger Berg step, but this is only possible with a maximum gradient of four percent. The platform is therefore 18.5 m deep. The shell planning came from Paul Kramer (subway department), the interior design concept and the implementation planning from the architectural office Raupach & Schurk, Munich.
The artistic design comes from Alfons Lachauer . Here, too, he creates a visually vibrating composition by relating different colors to one another.
The 4.40 meter high station has reflective aluminum plates on the ceiling that partially cancel out the low ceiling height. They also serve to achieve a high lighting effect with the lamps. The back track walls are painted blue-green on track 1 and red on track 2, creating a strong contrasting effect. The lift was clad in green marble and is located at the northwest end of the platform.
Escalators and fixed stairs lead to the restricted floor, where a bakery shop is located. From here you can reach Grünwalder Straße , where tram lines 15/25 to Grünwald stop.
Also on the mezzanine floor is a room above the platform that was originally planned as an underground car park. This should relax the parking situation for the residents around the Wettersteinplatz. After the construction, however, the entrance and exit were not built for cost reasons. The completed room is now empty.
