Voltastraße underground station

The Voltastraße underground station is a station on the U8 line of the Berlin U-Bahn , located under Brunnenstraße near Voltastraße . It was opened on April 18, 1930 and is named Vo in the station directory of the Berlin public transport company . The station has stairs and since the end of 2011 an elevator to leave the platform and is therefore known as barrier-free .

history

The Voltastraße underground station was built in 1914/1915 by AEG- Schnellbahn-AG. Features of this early year of construction are the granite support pillars and the shallow depth, which cause exits to the middle of the street. The station was opened on April 18, 1930. Reopened after the war-related closure in April 1945, it was opened on May 22, 1945, shortly after the end of the war.

After the wall was built, the U8 was badly affected. To the north, only the Voltastrasse and Gesundbrunnen stations could be used by West Berliners . A mini-route that was rarely used by Berliners - a condition that lasted until October 5, 1977, when the U8 was extended to Osloer Straße .

There is now nothing to suggest that this underground station was once the last station in the western sector when coming from the north . If you drove further south at that time to get back to the west at the Moritzplatz underground station , you could only get sparsely lit at the East Berlin stations Bernauer Straße , Rosenthaler Platz , Weinmeisterstraße , Alexanderplatz , Jannowitzbrücke and Heinrich-Heine-Straße. At the underground station you can change from the U8 line to the 247 bus of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe.
