Rosenthaler Platz underground station
The Rosenthaler Platz U-Bahn station is a station on the U8 line of the Berlin U-Bahn in the Mitte part of the district of the same name, under the square and Brunnenstrasse . It was opened on April 18, 1930 and is named Ro in the BVG station directory . The station has an elevator and is therefore barrier-free .
The station, located around seven meters below street level, has a central platform that is up to eight meters wide and 130 meters long and is clad with orange tiles . Like many other stations during this construction period, this one was designed by Alfred Grenander .
From August 13, 1961, this station was a " ghost station ". The BVG trains passed through the station in East Berlin without stopping . On December 22nd, 1989, this underground station was the second to go back into operation after the Jannowitzbrücke underground station , in order to better cope with the onslaught of GDR citizens in the western part of Berlin. This station was chosen because of its good tram connections and was equipped with a border crossing point until monetary union on July 1, 1990.
Connection
At the underground station you can change from the U8 line to the M1 and M8 tram lines as well as to the 142 bus of the Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe.
