Weinmeisterstraße underground station
The Weinmeisterstraße underground station is a station on the U8 line of the Berlin underground in the Mitte district of the district of the same name under the eponymous street. It was opened on April 18, 1930 and bears the designation W in the BVG station directory . The station has no elevator, only stairs and is therefore not barrier-free .
Located around six meters below Weinmeisterstraße, the underground station has a central platform up to eight meters wide and is clad with blue tiles . Like many other train stations, this one was designed by Alfred Grenander .
Due to the location in the narrow street directly between the house foundations, the entrances could not be built on the sidewalks, but had to be integrated into the adjacent house fronts. Today there are two entrances on the sidewalks.
From August 13, 1961 to July 1, 1990 this station was a " ghost station "; the BVG trains passed through this station in East Berlin without stopping .
Connection
At the underground station you can change from the U8 line to the M1 tram line operated by Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe.
