history

The Lake Champlain was commissioned by Ingalls Shipbuilding in 1983 . There the cruiser was laid down in 1986 and launched after 13 months. The name of the ship is derived from the battle of Lake Champlain in 1814. Commissioning with the United States Navy took place in New York City in 1988 , after which the Lake Champlain drove through the Strait of Magellan into the Pacific to its home port of San Diego.
