The Ulla Popken GmbH is an international fashion company from Hahn Lehmden (municipality Rastede ), the women's fashion in large sizes via mail order , the Internet, your own stores and franchise sells -Partner. With an annual turnover of 250 million euros, the company was the 24th largest mail order company in Germany in 2005.
Company history
Johann Popken (1855–1905) founded the Popken textile house in Hameln in 1880 . His grandson Friedrich Popken and his wife Ursula opened their first own shop for maternity clothes and baby equipment in Oldenburg in 1968 under the name “Mami & Baby” . In 1977 the concept for nationwide chain stores for maternity wear was created. In the following year, there were already three specialty stores for maternity wear in Bremen , Hamburg and Hanover . In 1984 Popken became a maternity wear franchisor . This was the basis for entering the mail order business . This step led to market leadership among the maternity fashion specialists in Germany. As more and more young women who were not pregnant at all, but could not find fashion in their size anywhere, became customers, everything was done to open up this niche market and the company “Ulla Popken, young fashion from size 42” was left on Enter March 1, 1987 in the commercial register The first ten stores of this type were also opened in 1987. The generation change was initiated on March 11, 2008. Friedrich Popken handed over the majority of his shares to his daughter Astrid and his son-in-law Thomas Schneider. Since July 1, 2008, Schneider has been a managing partner in the company. There are now over 300 branches, as well as mail order and internet sales. In addition to the “Ulla Popken” brand, the company also owns the “JP 1880” men's brand, named after the founder Johann Popken. It is also sold in its own branches, in the catalog and online. On January 1, 2012, Ulla Popken took over Buddelei Mode GmbH & Co. KG, based in Oldenburg. The company will be continued under the new company Gina Laura GmbH & Co. KG. In 2013 the company was awarded a TopShop Stationary by Textilwirtschaft , with bronze in the consulting service category and gold in the service category. In May 2013 the first collection was presented in Berlin together with designer Harald Glööckler .
Since 2015, Miss & Mister Plus Size Germany has been sought in cooperation with JP 1880 and the Miss Germany Corporation .
In 2016, as part of the first plus-size model casting show, Curvy Supermodel - Echt. Nice. The curvy face of the 2016 winter campaign for the young label Studio Untold by Ulla Popken wanted. Celine Denefleh was chosen as the winner .
