My new friend is a reality series produced for ProSieben in 2005. The main actor is Christian Ulmen , who plays various characters to spend a weekend with a candidate. The series is an adaptation of the British series My New Best Friend .
concept
A candidate has to spend a full weekend with someone he does not know who is an uncomfortable, annoying character, but whose identity and characteristics are not known beforehand. The candidate must endure whatever that person does or demands and introduce them to friends and parents as a new friend. The candidate and his "new boyfriend" are the only people performing over the weekend who know that everything is being filmed and that the relationship is only fake. If the candidate survives the constant provocations, there is a profit of 10,000 euros. In this case, the person of the "new friend" hands over the money under a pretext and leaves the room. However, the candidate has the option of stopping the game prematurely at any time. However, in this case the game is considered lost and there is no win. Christian Ulmen plays this "new friend" in disguise (and therefore unrecognized by the candidate).

- The neglected solo entertainer Knut Hansen is the only one who recognizes his talent. Candidate Diana (26) endures his stench and his performances until the end.
- Uwe
- The awkward mother's son Uwe Wöllner annoys Anika (26) with an allergy to almost everything. The candidate can't stand it, which is why she gives up the game.

- The schizophrenic American Collin Brown believes in aliens. Candidate Yvonne (27) actually wins 10,000 euros.

- Candidate Christoph has to introduce the transsexual annoyance Martina Kandel to his parents as a former school friend and is rewarded with the prize.
- Marcel
- The cranky man in the bobble hat is constantly trying to appear particularly cool. Candidate Mike ends the game when Marcel asks him about his mother. (This episode did not air and only appeared on DVD.)
Charisma
Because the first episode of the series did not achieve the market share ProSieben wanted, the station temporarily withdrew the format from the program. Due to massive protests at an Internet petition initiated by fans, ProSieben resumed the series at short notice and assigned it the broadcasting slot on Thursdays at around 11:15 p.m. to TV total , where it then had a market share of up to 20% among the 14 to 29 Yearlings ran. Despite the significantly better market share than when the first episode was broadcast, the ratings were still below the broadcaster average.
The entire season of My New Friend was repeated from November 1, 2005 on MTV . Another rerun ran in early 2008 on Comedy Central . In a final special, Christian Ulmen commented on the individual characters and candidates.
All episodes broadcast on television are available in full on MySpass.de free of charge. In addition, a DVD was released with an additional episode not broadcast on TV.
Award
The series was nominated in 2005 for the German Television Award in the category "Best Comedy". However, the prize was won by the improvisation show Schillerstraße . In 2006 the DVD was awarded a gold record for over 25,000 units sold.
elmen.tv
The roles of Alexander von Eich , Knut Hansen , Uwe Wöllner and, since December 11th, also Ecke , who is called Maurice Horstmann here , were taken over in the successor format ulmen.tv. At ulmen.tv there are no longer any candidates who should spend a weekend with one of the characters. Unlike My new friend the videos were first shown by ulmen.tv since late August 2008, only on the Internet and could at 3min.de be seen. It was only later that selected episodes of ulmen.tv were broadcast on television on Comedy Central (from October 19, 2008) and MTV (from October 23, 2008). On May 15, 2009 the 3- DVD box “Best of ulmen.tv” was released. Since October 11, 2012, 20 episodes have been shown on Tele 5 . At times, all episodes were shown on ulmen.tv.
My New Best Friend
The English original aired on Channel 4 in 2003 . The main actor in the six episodes was the comedian Marc Wootton. Four of his characters were copied in the German version (Stevie - Veith; Simon - Marcel; Gary - Jürgen; Sasha - Alexander von Eich). My New Best Friend won the 2004 Rose d'Or in the Game Show category.
